GBC showcases cost effective, professional laminating systems developed and built for the on-demand market

Kerkrade (The Netherlands), August 27th 2008 – GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group will present its range of cost effective laminating systems for the on-demand market at Total Print Expo 2008 at stand 343. The company will showcase its new high productivity laminating system – the GBC 620os. The company will also demonstrate the Titan 110 and its Catena series along with its latest exciting range of high quality films – Scuff free gloss/matt, Silk, Linen, Metallised matte and gloss and GBC Digital Lay Flat plus the new OPP Digital Film.

"As the demand for shorter print runs continues to increase, so has the need for printers and finishing houses to consider the effectiveness of in-house quality lamination solutions that allow for cost savings, efficiency and fast turn-around times,” says Giel Klinkers, Marketing and Sales Director GBC for Digital Print Finishing Solutions. In an industry where the appearance of printed matter is so important, GBC’s extensive range of laminating systems is there to focus on the customer’s specific needs and requests. In the past, lamination was traditionally used to protect outdoor prints against moisture and to offer UV-protection but nowadays, the inks have taken on this role,” continues Klinkers. “As lamination continues to enhance the print value by adding gloss and matte non-reflective finishes to the product as well as offering a higher level of protection, GBC expects solid growth potential in this market segment.”

GBC will present on stand 343 following solutions:

The GBC 620os

This single-sided laminating system is a highly cost-effective entry-level unit with automated controls that combines sophisticated technology with ease-of-operation and time savings. Developed and built specifically for the on-demand market, the new GBC 620os runs at speeds of 15m/min with a maximum sheet size of 53cmx76cm. This specification is ideal for short runs and fast 24/7deliveries. On the 620os the semi auto ‘burst’ separates the sheet from the roll at the output stage. This is of key importance and allows three clean edges. The machine can auto-process 200 sheets at a time and for booklets, and brochures this facet of the machine’s capabilities is fundamental to attain the speed and quality necessary for short run on-demand jobs.

The GBC 620os is designed for the production of book covers, dust jackets, and packaging, as well as sheeted gift cards, postcards and business cards. It is ideally suited for finishing output from on-demand color digital engines such as Xerox I-gen, HP Indigo, Canon, Océ and Xeikon.

GBC will also demonstrate its Digital LAY-FLAT film which works perfectly with the GBC 620os and provides superior adhesion and flat output when laminating electro-photographic prints from toner systems such as Xerox and Xeikon. Since prints can be laminated with Digital LAY-FLAT immediately after printing, it is the ideal solution for print shops requiring fast turnaround times to meet customer demand. It comprises a specially patented, thermally activated adhesive resulting in perfect adhesion while allowing it to “breathe” with the paper. The benefits mean no de-lamination and finished covers do not curl.

The GBC Titan 110

GBC will also present the Titan 110. Perfectly suited to working alongside wide format inkjet printers, the Titan 110 laminating system offers signage, photographic, copy shop and screen print companies the possibility of an entry level professional machine that produces quality cold and thermal lamination in house. Applications include POD, Posters and exhibition graphics. The Titan 110 has 9 memory settings for storing the parameters of regular jobs. Highly suitable for Displays, Roll-ups and Pop-ups, Posters and Trade Show Graphics, the Titan 110 is user friendly with a digital panel designed for intuitive use with independent temperature and speed controls. Perfectly suited to working alongside wide format inkjet printers, the Titan 110 laminating system offers signage, photographic, copy shop and screen print companies the possibility of an entry level professional machine that produces quality cold and thermal lamination in house.

GBC Catena series

The popular GBC Catena series will also be demonstrated. This series of compact laminating systems are designed to encapsulate and mount prints from colour printers and copiers. The Catena series provides a range of easy to use systems which professionally laminate, encapsulate and finish full colour digital output. Available in widths of 35/65 and 105 cm, this very cost-effective double-sided laminating system allows smaller reprographic-shops, copy-shops and facilities- management to finish their print-output in-house. GBC-Professional also provides the Digital OPP and NAP-2 films in different thicknesses and finishes.

All GBC’s laminating systems are extremely modular and equipped with an Advanced Electrical Safety System to protect fingers while feeding the laminator and are, therefore, the safest solutions on the market. As the demand for lamination continues to grow, GBC's product range provides its customers with a perfect solution while offering the company a reliable growth path.
