ImagineFX magazine uses MetalFX® to enhance cover artwork and increase sales

25th July 2008 – MetalFX®, the UK based manufacturer of metallic inks, has seen its multi metallic colour system and Silvercoat® ink, used to enhance the front and back cover of the Sci-Fi and digital art magazine, ImagineFX. Featuring artwork from renowned illustrators, HR Giger and Syd Mead, the magazine used MetalFX® technology to further improve the impact of the publication on retailers’ shelves, and increase potential sales.
Rob Carney, Editor of ImagineFX magazine comments, 'What better way to showcase two of the world's leading sci-fi artists, than by enriching their artwork using MetalFX® Inks. In terms of production, the process was simple and the results absolutely stunning. Through integrating MetalFX® Inks into our covers, we have definitely created the 'wow-factor', for even greater market impact, awareness, product recall and success.'
MetalFX® Technology is a patented system for specifying and printing hundreds of metallic colours in one pass of a five or six colour press. MetalFX® can be printed easily, accurately, and affordably and enables brand owners, designers and printers to maximise the creative process, and increase the effectiveness of print collateral.
Produced by Future Publishing, ImagineFX is the only UK magazine for Fantasy and Sci-Fi artists. Each issue contains an eclectic mixture of in-depth workshops from the world's best artists, galleries and interviews, features, community news, software and hardware reviews, and the latest sci-fi and fantasy films and comics. In the July issue, special workshops inspired by guest artists, HR Giger and Syd Mead, are featured for the creation of illustrations in their style.
Paul Tysall, Art Editor, ImagineFX magazine, comments, 'In addition to the huge creative potential provided by these inks, MetalFX® inks offer more colour, subtlety and control of metallic ink use - Perfect for what we required of July's ImagineFX covers.
‘For production, MetalFX® inks act as a substrate, printed inline before the transparent CMYK inks. The really clever thing is that you can define this substrate using a spot channel from any image, while retaining gradients and tonal values. This means that you achieve a far superior balance of inks on the page, enabling you to finely control, enrich or totally swamp the graphic with metallic colours. As a designer, you now have endless choice.'
Printed for ImagineFX by Midway Colour Print, the flexibility of MetalFX® enables it to fit into any print production workflow. Providing excellent consistency with most process inks, MetalFX® inks are also compatible with ISO 2846-1 ink sets – currently in use worldwide, running under ISO, G7® SWOP®, GRACoL® and custom printing conditions. Enjoyed by many printers around the world for their simplicity, reliability and consistency, MetalFX® inks provide a crucial ‘value added service’ capability, with the potential for end customers’ to enjoy increased ROI.
MetalFX® is fast becoming the world’s leading colour process for metallic inks. With huge success across Europe, MetalFX® licensed designers, prepress houses and printers are utilising the flexibility and creative potential of the process, to enhance a multitude of printed media like never before. With specific interest for MetalFX® benefits from companies in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, the opportunities for continued growth and customer adoption, look strong throughout 2008.
Rob Carney concludes, 'We are delighted with the look created for our July Issue. MetalFX® is a perfect fit for our magazine and high quality visual content. We look forward to positive market feedback, and creating more legendary covers using the technology in the future.'
